Thirty years ago, today, I attempted suicide. I know, that’s a startling way to introduce my story, but what would be a more perfect way to celebrate God’s blessings than to share my story? In the 30 years since my suicide attempt, I’ve been on so many bumpy rides, especially the past few years. My soul has felt heavy. I’ve prayed. I’ve cried. I’ve soaked myself in God’s presence, digging deep into His words. I’ve asked over and over for His direction about my life. But this year has, unexpectedly, been quite the whirlwind! I’ve seen God’s miracles and I’m in awe of what He will lead me to. Just last January, I was invited to visit the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf in Jamaica. I also decided to go back to school to study religion. These two steps have confirmed God’s calling for my future. The third step is to honor His calling: the formation of my 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Jennifer Kalina Ministries! I’ll be honest: I’m terrified but also humbled to see where this will go. All the years of tears, pain, trauma, and countless blessings have culminated in this, and I’ll share every one of them through JKM. I am enthusiastically trusting God to take the lead.
